Northeast Nutrition Scotland Celebrates Five Years of Salmon Feed Production

Northeast Nutrition Scotland Limited (NNS) has marked five years of producing nutritionally-balanced fish feed to ensure farmed Atlantic salmon continue to stay healthy and grow efficiently in the marine environment.

The feed mill based in Invergordon in the Scottish Highlands was acquired by Cooke after the previous owners announced plans to cease UK manufacturing activities at the end of April 2019. Cooke and NNS worked closely with former employees who were affected by the closure to resume operations at the facility in the beginning of 2020.

Chris Bryden, General Manager at NNS, joined all the staff on the mill floor to celebrate five years to the day the first batch of feed rolled off the production lines on 19 January 2020. He said: “I am immensely proud in all we have achieved as we continue to produce the highest quality feed that meets the nutritional needs of our freshwater and seawater salmon.

“Since Cooke acquired the mill our workforce has grown to 29 members of staff and due to the demand for salmon feed, we have plans to increase our staffing, bringing more jobs to the communities we call home. It was well worth us all taking some time to celebrate, and I thank all who have contributed to the success we have had over the five years.”

NNS supplies complete salmon feed to Cooke Scotland’s freshwater and seawater farming sites and also supplies globally to other internal customers within the Cooke family of companies. The feed mill holds Label Rouge and Soil Association Organic certifications.

NNS sources feed ingredients only from approved suppliers, including MarinTrust and/or MSC-certified marine raw materials, signalling that they come from healthy and responsible sustainable fisheries.

The Cooke family of companies is committed to minimising the impacts of its business on the environment and to respecting the needs of all users of our shared resources while producing safe, wholesome, quality and nutritious seafood products which consistently meet the expectations of our customers.
