Atlantic salmon is one of the most resource-efficient and healthy sources of animal protein.
As recommended by the UK National Health Service (NHS), a healthy, balanced diet should include at least two portions of fish a week, including one of oily fish such as salmon. That’s because fish and shellfish are good sources of many vitamins and minerals.
Cooke’s Scottish salmon is low in calories and packed with omega-3 which is proven to promote healthy heart and brain development, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and offer a range of other health benefits.
But don’t just take our word for it. NHS Dietitian and Orkney Island Games high jump gold medallist, Amy Davis, explains how eating salmon aids her sporting performance and why she recommends it to her patients.
“There’s loads of benefits of eating salmon. As an athlete, salmon helps my performance as a good source of protein, which is really important for my recovery and my muscles. There’s also omega-3 fatty acids, which is really important for our brain as well as vitamins and minerals like calcium, selenium, vitamins A and D as well.
“I recommend to all my patients to eat salmon as part of their diet just for their heart health, their brain function and their hormone health.
“I eat salmon usually about once or twice a week for my health and performance.”
